    Worm Tower Update

    in Choices

    Worm tower
    The worm tower it growing!

It is hard to believe that it has only been a month since we set up our worm bin. We have already gone from one to three trays! The bottom tray, which was the first, is already loaded with rich, lovely compost!

    Rich compost material
This rich compost was just dried leaves and coconut choir a month ago.

The worms were growing and reproducing so quickly, we soon added a second tray. There are still plenty of worms in the first tray. But a lot of action is going on in the second one, too. To help keep the fruit fly population down, we added a third tray that is just filled with coconut coir.

    Lots of worms!
The trays are filled with worms!

We have gotten rid of a lot of food scraps and are surprised at how much compost we already have. By the time the fifth tray is added to the tower, the bottom tray should be ready to harvest. Our plants will be thrilled with all the organic plant food!

So far, this is easier and more fun than we expected it to be. And, the best part: no more buying worm castings or other plant food!
