Organic Sourdough Starter
A mason jar containing your own live sourdough starter. Our starter is more than 5 years old and contains wild yeast harvested here in Minnesota and also gathered from around the USA, including diverse states like Florida, Pennsylvania and New Mexico. It is a very active and relatively sweet starter that can be used for a wide range of sourdough baking.
Sourdough starter is a living thing and needs regular care. At room temperature, it should be fed 1 to 2 times per day. It can also be stored in the refrigerator and fed 1 - 2 times per week.
Basic feeding instructions:
Split the starter in half. Save both halves. Feed the half that remains in the jar by adding 1/2 cup of organic flour and 1/4 cup of dechlorinated water and mixing completely.
Save the other half in a separate container for making things like tortillas and crumpets.
